Updated November 6, 2026. In Chile, a minor can hold a bank account well before turning 18. According to the CMF requirements file, BancoEstado's CuentaRUT can be opened from age 12 for girls and 14 for boys, or with a legal guardian, and Santander's Más Lucas Joven from age 12. For long-term saving there are accounts from birth: Scotiabank's ScotiaKids, for example, accepts holders aged 0 to 18 and pays UF + 0.20% a year, according to its official page.
This guide gathers the children's and teen accounts that banks and cooperatives report to the CMF and those they publish on their websites, with ages, cost and requirements. The CMF's spreadsheet has data as of July 31, 2025; where a bank publishes something more recent, we note it. Santander's and BancoEstado's websites blocked automated access on November 6, so their balance and withdrawal limits could not be verified.

Bank accounts for children and teens in 2026: comparison by bank
The table orders accounts by minimum age. Demand accounts are for receiving money, paying by debit card and transferring; savings accounts accrue indexation and interest but limit withdrawals. Some have universal access (anyone who meets the requirements can open one) and others require a parent to be a customer of the bank.

On Banjoven the fee depends on the customer's age and whether there is an agreed funds transfer; on Security Cash Familia, on the number of cards. Banco de Chile now states on its website that FAN Clan is for teens aged 12 to 17, while the CMF's July 2025 spreadsheet said 14 to 17. Santander also reports a "Cuenta vista teens" to the CMF, with non-universal access and no fee, with no age published.

Requirements to open an account for a minor
Documents vary by account, but three recur: the minor's valid ID card, that of one or both parents and, for several, the birth certificate. The CMF spreadsheet shows that Banco de Chile's Banjoven and Cuenta Familiar require a sworn statement and the minor's birth certificate; FAN Clan requires at least one parent to take part and approve the application, and Oriencoop's Cuenta Vista Ahorro Fácil asks to declare the relationship with the minor.
| Account | Who applies | Documents and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| FAN Clan | The teen, with approval from a parent or guardian | Valid IDs for both and a phone with a camera; 100% online |
| ScotiaTeens | A parent with a Scotiabank checking account | Authorization from both parents (the second has 5 business days to sign), a birth certificate under 30 days old and valid IDs |
| ScotiaKids | A parent or grandparent who is a Scotiabank customer | No minimum opening amount; opened at a branch |
| Banjoven / Cuenta Familiar | The minor with a representative | Sworn statement, birth certificate and valid ID; no overdue debts |
| Más Lucas Joven | The minor, a new Santander customer | Commercial assessment and valid ID, according to the CMF |

If only one parent or a third party has parental authority, Scotiabank says they can open the account at a branch by proving that status. For the CuentaRUT, fees and usage limits are in our CuentaRUT guide.

For long-term saving, the difference between a demand account and an inflation-indexed savings account shows quickly. The UF rose 4.17% between November 6, 2025 and November 6, 2026, and October's CPI reached 4.5% over twelve months, according to INE. A demand account that pays no interest keeps the same pesos but loses purchasing power; an indexed savings account adds the UF change plus its rate.
| Option | Published rate | CLP 100,000 after 12 months* | Withdrawals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coopeuch, inflation-indexed passbook (UF + 1.00%) | UF + 1.00% (Coopeuch, May 2025) | CLP 105,208 | Limited to keep indexation |
| One-year term deposit (4.53%) | 4.53% a year (system average, Sep 2026) | CLP 104,530 | At maturity |
| ScotiaKids (UF + 0.20%) | UF + 0,20% | CLP 104,375 | Up to 6 a year without losing indexation |
| Demand account without interest | 0% | CLP 100,000 | Unrestricted |
*Pauta Financiera calculation, illustrative: a single CLP 100,000 deposit held 12 months without withdrawals, with the Central Bank UF between Nov 6, 2025 (CLP 39,628.28) and Nov 6, 2026 (CLP 41,279.51), before fees and taxes. Rates: Coopeuch, fee schedule of Jun 5, 2025 (passbook accounts, including children's, between UF + 1.00% and UF + 1.05%), ScotiaKids and the Central Bank for the term deposit. The future UF is unknown, so the result over the next 12 months will differ. Coopeuch is a cooperative; guarantee details are in our savings accounts guide.

What to check before opening an account for a child or teen
- Real cost: almost all youth accounts have a CLP 0 fee, but charge for withdrawals at other banks' ATMs or purchases abroad. FAN Clan, for example, reports US$2.5 per withdrawal abroad to the CMF.
- What happens at 18: Scotiabank says ScotiaKids is fee-free until age 18; ask which account it moves to and what it will cost afterwards.
- Limits: few pages publish balance or withdrawal caps for minors. If it matters, ask for them in writing before opening.
- Saving or spending: for allowance and purchases, a demand account; for keeping gifts or scholarships for years, an indexed savings account or a term deposit.
When the teen moves on to university, the next step is usually a student account or a first card; we review it in credit cards for students. And when they start working with a contract, our guide to accounts to receive your salary lists each bank's discounts for a salary deposit. Other adult demand accounts are in our demand account comparison.
