Which are the best banks in Chile in 2026? There is no single official ranking, but the Financial Market Commission (CMF) publishes data that let customers compare banks. The most revealing concerns fraud: between January 2025 and June 2026, Banco de Chile refunded 75.8% of what customers claimed for unrecognized charges, Bice 66.8% and Bci 66.5%, while BancoEstado, the bank with the most people filing claims (150,743), refunded 45.2%, according to the CMF report on Law 20,009.
This ranking, updated on November 5, 2026, combines five official sources: fraud refunds, credit ratings, capital adequacy, delinquency and CMF fines, plus the ProCalidad satisfaction award. It measures quality and soundness, not size: if you want to know which bank is largest by assets or profit, see our ranking of the largest banks in Chile. Some figures people often ask for, such as the general complaint rate per customer or the average CAE per bank, are not published in a comparable way; we flag this in each case.

Ranking of the best banks in Chile in 2026: comparison table
The table ranks banks by the share of the amount claimed for fraud that they refunded to customers, the indicator that best reflects how a bank responds when something goes wrong. The other columns measure soundness: long-term local credit rating, capital over risk-weighted assets (well above the regulatory minimum) and 90+ day delinquency.

Which bank refunds the most when fraud happens
Law 20,009 requires banks to refund charges the customer does not recognize, unless they prove fraud or gross negligence by the user. Practice varies widely. Over 18 months, Banco de Chile refunded three quarters of the amount claimed, and Bice, Bci, Banco Internacional, Banco Consorcio and Scotiabank exceeded 60%. Santander (58.1%), Banco Falabella (55.1%), Banco Ripley (53.2%) and BancoEstado (45.2%) came in lower. For reference, Coopeuch refunded 79.6% and CMR Falabella, the card issuer that reports separately from the bank, 74.1%.
Absolute figures mostly reflect each bank's size: BancoEstado has more than 15 million CuentaRUT customers. That is why we use the refund rate as the main indicator. Sernac, the consumer agency, received 20,880 fraud complaints in 2025, of which 13,990 targeted banks, according to data provided to Informe Especial; it does not publish a bank-by-bank breakdown.

CMF fines on banks and customer satisfaction
In 2025 and 2026 most CMF fines on banks were for granting loans to people listed in the National Registry of Child Support Debtors.
