How Forbes calculates fortunes

  • Annual list: a snapshot of fortunes at a given date; the 2026 list was published on March 10.
  • Real time: the daily tracker updates share values, which is why Fontbona & family's fortune in November (US$43.0 billion) is lower than in March.
  • Families: Forbes groups some family fortunes under one name ("& family") and lists others separately, like the Angelini siblings.
  • Currency: figures are in US dollars, so the exchange rate affects fortunes held in Chilean companies.

The dollar rose 4.44% against the peso in September 2026 alone, according to the Superintendencia de Pensiones, amid above-target inflation; details are in our piece on Chile's CPI and inflation.

Much of this wealth is in companies listed on the Santiago Stock Exchange, the same ones pension funds invest in; see AFP pension fund returns in 2026.
