The UTM for November 2026 is CLP 72,440, according to Chile's tax service, the Servicio de Impuestos Internos (SII). That is CLP 289 more than in October (CLP 72,151) and 4.17% more than in November 2025 (CLP 69,542). So far in 2026, the monthly tax unit is up 3.86% from January's CLP 69,751.
The UTM is the unit the Chilean state uses to set taxes, fines and charges that must keep their value over time. Unlike the UF, which changes every day, the UTM has a single value per month, and that value is known in advance because it depends on inflation from two months earlier.

What the UTM is
The Unidad Tributaria Mensual (UTM), or monthly tax unit, is an inflation-adjusted unit of account used in tax law, fines and other government and municipal charges. It is published by the SII and expressed in pesos. Its annual version is the UTA (Unidad Tributaria Anual), equal to December's UTM multiplied by 12: the 2025 UTA was CLP 834,504 (12 × CLP 69,542).
The idea is the same as with the UF: if a fine or a tax bracket were set in pesos, inflation would shrink it year after year. Expressed in UTM, the amount adjusts itself with the CPI.
How the UTM is calculated
Each month's UTM is the previous month's value adjusted by the CPI change from two months earlier, published by the INE. So the November 2026 UTM is obtained with September CPI, 0.4% according to the INE: CLP 72,151 × 1.004 = CLP 72,440, rounded to the peso.
- October 2026 UTM: CLP 72,151 (adjusted by August CPI, 0.6%).
- November 2026 UTM: CLP 72,440 (adjusted by September CPI, 0.4%).
- December 2026 UTM: will be known when the INE publishes October CPI on November 8.
Because of that rule, the UTM can also fall when CPI is negative, which happened twice in 2025: in February, due to December 2024 CPI (-0.2%), and in August, due to June 2025 CPI (-0.4%). It stays flat when CPI is 0%, as in October 2025, December 2025, April 2026 and August 2026.

Advertise with usWhat the UTM is used for
The UTM shows up in many more charges than people think. The main ones:
- Second Category Single Tax (income tax on wages): the brackets of the tax on salaries are set in UTM. Anyone earning up to 13.5 UTM a month (CLP 977,940 in November 2026) pays no tax.
- Traffic fines: Law 18,290 sets fines in UTM according to the seriousness of the offense.
- Tax fines and penalties: the Tax Code expresses several fines in UTM or UTA.
- Global Complementary Tax: the annual version, the UTA, sets the brackets of the annual personal income tax.
Wage tax brackets in UTM
This is the Second Category Single Tax table the SII published for November 2026. Peso limits come from multiplying each UTM bracket by CLP 72,440:
| From (UTM) | To (UTM) | Rate | Up to (pesos, Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 13.5 | Exempt | CLP 977,940 |
| 13.5 | 30 | 4% | CLP 2,173,200 |
| 30 | 50 | 8% | CLP 3,622,000 |
| 50 | 70 | 13.5% | CLP 5,070,800 |
| 70 | 90 | 23% | CLP 6,519,600 |
| 90 | 120 | 30.4% | CLP 8,692,800 |
| 120 | 310 | 35% | CLP 22,456,400 |
| 310 | — | 40% | — |
The rate is marginal: only the part of the salary that falls in each bracket pays that bracket's rate. That is why the SII also publishes an amount to deduct for each bracket, which simplifies the calculation.

How much a traffic fine costs in UTM
Traffic fines come in UTM ranges: minor, 0.2 to 0.5 UTM; less serious, 0.5 to 1 UTM; serious, 1 to 1.5 UTM; and very serious, 1.5 to 3 UTM. With the November 2026 UTM, the cap on a very serious fine is CLP 217,320.
| Type of offense | Range in UTM | Range in pesos (Nov 2026 UTM) |
|---|---|---|
| Minor | 0.2 to 0.5 | CLP 14,488 to 36,220 |
| Less serious | 0.5 to 1 | CLP 36,220 to 72,440 |
| Serious | 1 to 1.5 | CLP 72,440 to 108,660 |
| Very serious | 1.5 to 3 | CLP 108,660 to 217,320 |

UTM, UF and the dollar: what each one measures
The UTM, the UF and the observed dollar rate are all published in pesos, but they respond to different things. The UTM and the UF track inflation; the dollar reflects the market price of the US currency. For savings invested in stocks, the benchmark is the IPSA.
| Indicator | Reference value | Frequency | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| UTM | CLP 72,440 (November 2026) | Monthly | SII |
| UF | CLP 41,268.88 (Nov 4, 2026) | Daily | Central Bank |
| Observed dollar | CLP 980.59 (Nov 4, 2026) | Daily (business days) | Central Bank |
