The observed euro rate was set at CLP 1,090.83 for Thursday, November 5, 2026, according to the value published by the Central Bank of Chile and mirrored by mindicador.cl. That is 2.3% higher than the CLP 1,066.58 of January 2, the first business day of the year. So far in 2026 the euro hit its high on October 27 (CLP 1,112.80) and its low on February 5 (CLP 1,012.26).
The odd fact of the year is that the euro got more expensive in pesos despite weakening against the dollar. According to the European Central Bank reference rates, one euro bought US$1.1721 on January 2 and US$1.1224 on November 5, a 4.2% drop. Over the same period the observed dollar rose 7.0% in Chile. Because the peso weakened more against the dollar than the euro fell, the net result was a pricier euro for anyone buying with pesos.

Euro today in Chile: what the observed euro rate is
When people look up the euro today in Chile, the official reference is the value the Central Bank of Chile publishes every business day for the main currencies. It is derived from the observed dollar and the euro's parity against the dollar in international markets, so when the dollar rises in Chile, the euro tends to rise with it. Companies, banks and public agencies use it for contracts, invoices and foreign-currency filings.
That value is not the price at which an individual buys euros on the street. Currency exchange houses and banks apply their own buying and selling prices, with a margin over the reference value that varies between outlets and with the amount. Before exchanging, it pays to compare at least two quotes on the same day. The logic is the same we explain in our guide to the dollar today in Chile, the currency that drags the euro along.

The euro's value in 2026, month by month
The euro's value began 2026 at around CLP 1,066, fell to its low in February and averaged between CLP 1,040 and 1,065 from March to August. The jump came in the last quarter: the September average reached CLP 1,091.38 and October's CLP 1,101.03, the highest of the year, in line with a dollar that averaged CLP 982.28 that month. In the first days of November the euro eased somewhat, along with the dollar.

The last column shows the other side of the story: the implied euro-dollar parity fell from about 1.17 in the first quarter to around 1.12 in October and November. In other words, the euro lost ground in global markets, but the dollar's rise in Chile more than offset that drop.

If the payment in euros is made with a Chilean card, add the card's cost abroad. For example, the CuentaRUT charges 1.9% of every purchase or withdrawal outside Chile, as we detail in our guide to CuentaRUT fees. On €500 of spending, that is about CLP 10,363 on top of the reference value.

Part of that rise is Chilean inflation: with higher inflation in Chile than in the euro area, the peso tends to lose value against the euro over the long run. That is why many contracts in Chile are written in UF rather than pesos; we explain it in our piece on the UF's value and how it is calculated.
The euro against the dollar: the ECB parity
The euro-dollar parity is the other piece of the euro's value in Chile. According to the annual average of the European Central Bank reference rates, it hit the period's low in 2022 (US$1.0530 per euro), recovered to US$1.1300 in 2025 and averages US$1.1562 in 2026, though with a downward trend since late January, when it reached US$1.1974.

For market watchers, this means the euro in pesos depends on two forces that can move in opposite directions: the peso's exchange rate with the dollar, which responds to copper, the Central Bank of Chile's rates and risk appetite, and the global parity, driven by the decisions of the ECB and the Federal Reserve. The latest Central Bank monetary policy minutes help explain the Chilean side.
The euro's value rose in pesos and fell against almost everything else
Comparing with other currencies confirms that the euro's rise in Chile is, above all, a story about the peso. Between January 2 and November 5, 2026, the euro fell against all nine currencies we checked in the ECB reference rates: −8.7% against the Chinese yuan, −8.4% against the Australian dollar, −4.4% against the pound sterling, −4.2% against the US dollar and −3.7% against the Brazilian real. Against the Mexican peso it barely moved (−0.8%). Against the Chilean peso, by contrast, it rose 2.3%.
For a traveler or a company importing from Europe, the practical conclusion is that the euro is not expensive because of its own strength, but because the Chilean peso weakened against the dollar in the second half of the year. If the dollar retreats in Chile, the euro in pesos should follow, unless the global parity changes direction.

What to watch if you are buying euros
- The dollar in Chile: it explains most of the euro's movement in pesos this year.
- The EUR/USD parity: if the euro weakens globally, it can cushion a rise in the dollar.
- The buy-sell margin: compare at least two exchange houses or banks on the same day.
- Card fees: the cost per purchase abroad can weigh more than the difference between quotes.
